Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I chose to search near Forbury Gardens.

I found the website while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a price that seemed right for the job.

The process of planning this renovation was honestly quite involved. I dedicated many hours thinking on the configuration of the space before ever picking up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt slightly unfinished, and having a dedicated area for beverages felt like the ideal fix to that issue. I remember standing in my hallway staring at a cluttered countertop filled with bottles and feeling that everything had to change. The initial conversation with the team was extremely simple, which gave me confidence. We talked various styles, from contemporary sleek looks to something classic and timber textures. I was quite surprised by how much detail they requested about the dimensions and the existing interior of my house. It seemed like they genuinely wanted the finished result to blend seamlessly with the rest of the property. I provided various angles in the photos I sent, making sure each corner was visible. They explained that the bespoke type of the furniture signified that precision was entirely critical to avoid any issues during the fitting. We moved back and back on possible resources, searching at samples of laminate and various types of timber grain. It is amazing how many consideration goes into selecting the correct hardware, like pulls and copyrights, which could completely alter the vibe of the entire construction. I needed a place where I could comfortably mix drinks for guests without having to repeatedly run back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The ease of possessing all items in one place was the primary reason for this purchase. We finalised the design after a short consultation where every one of my concerns regarding plumbing and lighting sockets were answered. I appreciated that they did not hurry the planning stage, spending the effort to make sure that the width of the racks was enough for my largest bottles. It seemed like a collaborative effort instead than a standard transaction, which is hard to locate these days.

The fitting date arrived sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was on time and prepared. He started by laying down protective covers to ensure my flooring stayed tidy. Watching the parts being unpacked was fascinating, as the standard of the materials was instantly obvious. He meticulously verified the alignment of the walls before attaching the base frame of the bar. I observed as the skeleton slowly gained shape, changing a boring alcove into a functional feature. The level of craftsmanship involved in scribing the boards to the wonky surfaces of my period house was impressive. He mentioned how each section slotted together to create total strength. We wasted a bit of duration choosing on the final height for the integrated cooler, making sure it was accessible to open but tucked away from direct view. The installation of the worktop was the highly satisfying moment of the entire day. Seeing the polished top finally sitting on the cabinets helped the vision feel real. He next installed the mirrored backsplash, which immediately caused the space to feel twice the size. The lighting were wired afterward, and testing them for the first moment was a highlight. The warm glow underneath the shelves showcased the glassware perfectly. I was able to see precisely how useful this might be during evening events. The worker was very careful, spending the time to wipe down every area and clear any debris made during the cutting. He also demonstrated me how to move the racks should I later wanted to store bigger items. The focus to precision was truly exceptional, right down to the silicone beads along the edges. It was clear that he had great satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently reassuring to witness. We did a last walkthrough of the completed installation to make all was perfect. I noted that one handle was a bit wobbly, and he tightened it straight away with a quick turn of a tool. This diligence was exactly what I was looking for when I arranged the job.

The finished bar appears completely amazing and has turned into the focal point of my home. It provides a classy vibe that had been formerly missing from my reception space. The capacity is huge, enabling me to sort all my liquors, mixers, and fancy glasses in a unified unit. No more do I need to search inside cramped kitchen shelves to locate a bottle opener or a certain kind of tumbler. Everything has its proper place, which makes entertaining so more easier and relaxing. I love the way the finishes reflect the sunlight in the evenings, making a warm ambience. My guests have already complimented the design several occasions, with some actually asking for the contact of the people who built it. It really feels like a bespoke extra tailored exactly for my lifestyle. The height of the countertop is perfect for leaning by with a drink, and the built-in lighting units provide just the correct level of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in use, it works as a lovely item of furniture that lifts the whole look of the property. I spent a bit effort placing my collection on the shelves to create a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored panels really help in showcasing the bottles and giving dimension to the tight alcove. It has inspired me to experiment making different drinks that I before felt were too fussy to bother in a standard kitchen. Having the sink nearby might have been nice, but the area limits resulted in we decided without it to preserve storage space. This was a deliberate decision we took during the design stage, and I certainly not regret it. The extra drawer room for straws and tools is much more valuable to me in the run period.

There were a few of small drawbacks that are worth noting for a balanced view. The lead time for the custom panels was a little longer than I originally hoped. It took about eight days from the first deposit to the actual fitting date. While this is expected for tailored furniture, it meant a bit of patience on my end. I had wanted to have it ready for a specific event, but we passed that deadline by a week. However, the updates from the office regarding the delay was regular, so I was never kept in the unknowing. I would hold a bit longer for a product that is built to last than have a hasty work that fails after a few years. The start price estimate was also slightly less than the total bill, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and include extra internal lights midway fitted bar during the process. These adjustments were completely my choice, and the team was extremely clear about the extra fees required. Another small issue was the volume of boxes left following the install. Although the technician tidied up the work site well, there was a large pile of waste to dispose of in my recycling. It was not a huge problem, but a thing to consider if you possess little waste space. Despite these small details, the total journey was vastly good. The quality of the fit is much superior to anything I could have bought from a shop. It feels solid and well-constructed, and I am confident it will handle decades of use. I believe the value it has added to my home far outweighs the upfront cost. It has changed the way I enjoy my living area, making it far more inviting. I not longer feel cramped when people come over.

Reflecting back on the whole experience, I am really happy I opted ahead with it. The first idea came from a trip to a friend's house in London, where they had a similar setup. I saw then how much it improved the flow of the party. When I got back to Reading, I started researching nearby options and discovered that working with a specialist outfit was the best way to get the exact style I desired. The ability to pick each element, from the colour of the paint to the placement of the plug outlets, ensured the end product was exactly as I pictured. I also had a tiny secret compartment included for storing expensive tools like silver stirrers. This level of customisation is what renders the service special. It didn't feel like a mass-produced item being fitted into a room where it didn't belong. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a segment of the house. If you are thinking about a similar home upgrade, my tip would be to remain calm and invest the effort on the design stage. It is far better to change a drawing than it is to fix a cabinet once it is built. The knowledge provided at the beginning was crucial in preventing me from making common errors, such as putting the cooler too near to a radiator. These little bits of advice are what you buy for when you choose skilled professionals. I am now planning at different parts of my home to see where further I could add built-in solutions. The success of this bar job has given me the confidence to tackle a bigger task in the kitchen later season. It is a great upgrade to my daily routine, and I look forward to numerous years of enjoying it with family and pals. Finding the right balance between style and use was the goal, and I think we reached it perfectly. The journey from a cluttered corner to a stylish social point was truly deserving the time and investment required. I now have a home that I am truly happy to show with to visitors. Reading has some nice places to go for a cocktail, but honestly, I now prefer staying at home and enjoying my own personal setup. It provides the identical atmosphere without the crowds or the commute. That alone is worth the entire project. I am so happy with how the ambience works in the evening, providing a chill space to relax after a busy shift at work. It is the little treats like this that make house life so rewarding and enjoyable. I highly appreciate the craft that was put into the final result. The manner the panels shut with a silent thud tells volumes about the construction quality. No detail was ignored, and the total appearance is precisely what I hoped it would be when I originally started this process. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the quality of the materials utilised. I am a truly satisfied customer.
